Our first guest blogger for the series is the ever stylish Mason Browne. We've spoken about him before and true to form he's still the ever multitasking, phone answering, networking fashion guy we've come to know and like. Not love. We're jealous of his jewellery collection and awesome knowledge of historical fashion. Mr Browne is an event organising nutter, including Closet and he spent way too long at that very famous university in Sydney studying costume design (think Catherine Martin) so he knows his stuff about glad rags boys. Enjoy!

A Week in his Shoes with Adrian John
by Mason Browne

Adrian and I famously first bonded over fishbowl margaritas at Taco Bill and since this time I’ve been rather envious of his style. Boasting over 35 bow ties I thought it proper to devote a style portrait to his wardrobe, which goes to show what a little effort in dressing up just to leave the house can do. Adrian has that rare ability to wear affordable and trusted pieces with vintage elements, in an infinite amount of combinations.

Adrian is an avid young Melbourne photographer currently developing his skills at RMIT and this is a week in his shoes, photographed in the fashion capital of Lilydale, Victoria – a wonderful juxtaposition in style versus suburbia.

This gentleman’s wardrobe is full of surprises. The shorts are Target suit pants (taken up and customised by Adrian himself), vintage check shirt, Bonds knee-high socks, an op-shop belt, Ray Ban wayfarers, Gorina Royal Trilby, Chronicles of Never shoes (not shown), and yes, a Big W bow tie.

An effortless combination of Bonds singlet, Arvust waistcoat (don’t be calling it a vest now, kids), vintage trousers, those wayfarers and boots by St&Ard.

Having seen pictures of Adrian at Derby Day I insisted on this look. Once again, his ability to customise affordable pieces and use them in endless, unique combinations – Target shirt, Saxony trousers from Myer, Arvust waistcoat and vintage pussy bow, topped off with Ray Bans and a Trilby just made for the races. Don’t you wish you’d seen him amongst the black, white and grey?

Nothing like a vintage camera as an accessory. Looking studious with Ray Ban spectacles, your basic, black business shirt, op-shop blazer, Arvust shorts and that knee high sock look that I’m about to steal for the summer.

Stepping up to the streets a little in this T-shirt by Ksubi, Cheap Monday jeans, boots by St&Ard, a self-customised rope bracelet & AM Eyewear sunnies – several styles of which you can pick up in store at Comeback Kid.

One thinks of a springtime picnic in the park when donning an oversize op-shop striped business shirt, Minty Meet Munt harem pants, Chronicles of Never shoes and those trusted Ray Ban wayfarers.

A fabulous end to the week, and it’s time to disco. Jack London (channelling Patrick Wolf) sequined top, those Target customised shorts, wayfarers, knee highs and Chronicles of Never shoes. Adrian may well be competing with the mirror ball this Friday night, and I kinda like it.

Special thanks to Adrian for imparting his talents on these pictures;

Taken by yours truly,
Mason Browne
