Revamp!

Tomorrow (fingers crossed) will see the launch of our new blog! Yes, we're saying goodbye to old Blogger and embracing the future with Wordpress. We've had a few sneak peeks and we're really excited with the finished product. Monica Clapcott is the mastermind behind the upgrade and knows a thing or two about coding and other nerdy goodness. She has also since become quite good at dealing with our annoying/incessant/rambling emails. So a giant thanks to Mon!

Gucci's So Flossy

I don't know what that means. I'm assuming shiny? Or fresh? Like freshly flossed and therefore shiny teeth? Other lyrics I like are, "You know I'm a gangsta, so gangsta not a stranger", though I'm not sure what that means either. Then it goes, "I'll put you in the paper, I'll send you to your maker" which makes considerably more sense, not that we condone violence.

Oh I'm sorry. You're not sure what I'm talking about it? Whoa! The new (long title warning) Gucci Mane - Diplo Presents: Free Gucci Mane (Best of the Cold War Mixtapes) download. Phew, that got the sweat beads going. And it rules. Free has two meanings in this case: it's free to download and Mr Mane is in jail so they wanna get him out. It's another winner from CBK favourite Diplo and it has some pretty nasty beats; the mix is heavy and dirty and basically like taking the rubbish out after a huge party. We'd know.

I'm The Shit Bitch (not being rude... just another lyric),

It's For The Best

Sunday Best is back kids and we here at Comeback Kid like to test the waters before letting you know what is cool. Nice of us huh? So even though we urged you to hit up the last one, we attended it ourselves and had a truly life changing experience. So there. Do you trust us now? You can rock Sunday Best (for the first or second time), this Sunday (true to it's name) from midday at The Order of Melbourne. It's going to be a fine twenty seven degree day with plenty of sun, so ensure you head upstairs for the barbecue on the roof top terrace and have a sausage with mustard for me.

It's For The Best,

The Fashion Feast: Fall 2010 Trends, Part One of Two

Well it's the first day of February and meteorologists (wow - I didn't use spell check for that one, legend!) are speculating that we're about to dive head first into some unseasonably cool weather (and I can't find the link to that article for the life of me, you'll just have to trust the intellectual tone of my sentence). So with that long winded statement I want to draw your attention to key Fall 2010 (that's our winter in 2011) trends that popped up during the recent men's shows. Trends are a tricky concept and the men's fashion scene in Melbourne doesn't necessarily follow them but it's always good to see what's out there to find inspiration for your own look - you never know where your wardrobe is heading! Less talk more action:

The Hairy LapelLet's start with the undeniable number one trend - the large lapel. Nearly every designer featured a jacket with an oversized lapel covered in fur or sheepskin to keep your neck warm as the snow starts to fall. And we're loving this look! Masculine and practical - I sound like I'm on a dating show...

Neck It
Sick of seeing your collar bones? Fear not! The roll neck is back and in a big, rolled up kind of way. P.S. It's not just for the mods, this look is undeniably cool if teamed with just the right jacket.

Shag Rug ApparelWhy keep it on the floor when you can wear it on your body? We're loving the cuddly texture of these jackets and jumpers - not to forget ties and hats; this trend is totally charming and very wintery warm. Hug anyone?

My Hipster Badge Just Got Revoked

Comeback Kid couldn't attend Laneway* Festival today due to unforeseen circumstances**. As a result we've had our Hipster Badge revoked and cannot renew our Hipster Membership until we've attended three warehouse parties, two gallery openings and one new beer label launch.

Say it ain't so!

Moreover, we have to wear black at all times and ensure over 6 layers are being worn at once (not including underwear or scarves). Stressful. Lastly, we need to become DJs and learn how to build fixies. From scratch. Scratch damn it!

As I result, we recommend you don't read our blog for at least 3 months (this is the estimated time we've calculated to achieve the above) as the content will become not cool.

Your Ex Hipster Blogging Friends,
Comeback Kid

*Not actually in a lane. Liars.
**Poverty. Why don't I still live at home?

Sheepish in Sheepskin

"Just chillin' after the show, you know, checking my emails on my Blackberry...in MY amazing sheepskin jacket!!!"

I used to have a sheepskin blanket when I was a kid. I loved it. BUT this sheepskin jacket really puts it to shame. I wonder if it would even be practical in Melbourne? Do we even get a winter anymore?

Baaah baaah black sheep,

Comeback Kid

PS. I no longer own my special sheepskin blanket...it got pretty feral.

Words Escape Me...

...but furry shoes excite me! Mr Tommy Ton just snapped these Louis Vuitton goodies from the Fall 2010 collection and we can't help but suffer from a serious dose of shoe envy a.k.a. Shenvy. Shenvy can strike at any time and is very dangerous, so don't say we didn't warn you because you're about to skin your pet cat and staple gun it to your booties in a psychotic fit of jealous hysteria. Oh my! Did we just type that? May the Shenvy begin:

Of Beards, Bands and Ballads

Happy Thursday kids! Comeback Kid's in a cheerful mood this morning 'cause we hit up the spectacular Devendra Banhart concert last night. With our fake beards, beads and bells and long curly hair we swayed and hummed throughout his beautiful set. And what a talented band! The Grogs (as they go by) were so talented (they all sung solos) that I've registered in singing lessons. Well, not quite, but it was very inspirational.

Anyhow, jump onto the internet machine and stream some Devendra into your brain box to ensure your mood is as perky as ours.

A Sight to Behold,

Summer Soundtrack Injection: For The Ladies

So the Hottest 100 has counted itself down and Art vs. Science proudly took second place (Numero Uno had previously been revealed) and we here at CBK were pretty excited to see some of our favourites rank up the top. After the Gentleman's Club that was the Hottest 100 of All Time it was nice to hear some of our female friends place not only in the top 10 but steadily throughout the day. To celebrate, here are five new tracks from the girls that are getting our heads nodding like yeah and hips moving like yeah:

Theres Space For Ol Dat I See
M.I.A.
She's back! And poorly spelt track title aside this is a surprisingly addictive jam. CBK couldn't wait to hit play on this one and were initially disappointed when we didn't get rewarded with the Bamboo Banger we'd been hoping for. That said, it's grown slowly and steadily and has since ripened into a new store favourite.

Teeth Lady Gaga
Not even going to pretend that we don't like her because we do. Oh yes we do. A lot. Heaps. We're crazy. Can't help ourselves. In other news, wasn't the weather lovely yesterday? This track is for the Lady Gaga haters: it's not so Euro Pop, it's not so trashy and it's oh so irresistible. Just like her. We love her. She's amazing...

I Am Not a Robot Marina and the Diamonds
Ms Marina has been floating around the information super highway for some time but we want to draw your attention to her track, I Am Not a Robot. The lyrics are great, her voice is interesting and challenging without being annoying and the music is surprisingly melancholy. Enjoy!

Logic Operator Please
This shit is so new it ain't even hit Hype Machine yet! Whoa! But we're already getting excited. Have you ever seen OP live? They're so professional, they sound so good and their sets are so rockin' that it's hard to believe that you still can't take them to the pub with you for a celebratory drink and round of pool. Not convinced? This is an oldie but a goodie from our Northern friends.

You Got The Love Florence and the Machine (The XX Remix)
As Missy Elliott would say, "Remix"! CBK favourite The XX have taken Ms Florence and her Machine for a little ride with their pop synth reworking of this angsty, grungy track and we love the result.

All right boys, don't get angry, here's one from your team: the new Gorillaz track Stylo - we're so pumped for this album! Woop woop!

The Fashion Feast: Paris Fashion Week Fall 2010

Before we discuss our favourite looks from Paris I want you all to know that I'm so devoted to you, dear reader, that I'm now dreaming of fashion. Friday night I dreamt that Valentino himself created me a magnificent gown (this is George here), Saturday night I was front row at the ChloƩ Spring 2010 show and last night I was creating the advertising campaign for the latest Margiela men's collection. What will tonight bring?! So there, I'm devoted! And after that rant... let's take a look at some Paris highlights:

Drape shone through at Paul Smith and Dior Homme: capes and coats were romantic but masculine.

Wooyoungmi frocked their models in these shaggy knits whilst Lanvin paid homage to the mo hawk paired with some seriously high waisted trousers.

Despite this PR disaster the Jean Paul Gaultier boxing themed show went off without a hitch but with plenty of stripes. Dries Van Noten hit back with this subtle pattern clash.

Here's a look for the Melbourne boys: Lanvin made casual layering look oh so stylish whilst Blaak Homme made just shorts, tee and a jacket suddenly very cool.

Suit yourself with length and flow from Yves Saint Laurent or shoulder definition with Kanye's favourite, Louis Vuitton.

Fur and androgyny reined supreme from the ever moody but always impressive Rick Owens and Ann Demeulemeester.

Jean Paul Paula wouldn't be out of placing rocking Romain Kremer's futuristic garb. And finally Damir Doma has given me good reason to call him Damir Doona without sounding like a fool.

Fashion isn't always serious and dark: Issey Miyake showed us how to relax in this super charming coffee jumper and Hermes wasn't getting too deep either with this simple hat and scarf combo.

Next week we'll take a look over the key trends but until then...

Au Revoir!

Knight Marc is Busier Than You

I have a little catch phrase (lecture) here at CBK that I deliver if someone complains that they don't have enough time - it's all about Marc Jacobs and goes a little something like this: "Have you heard of Marc Jacobs? Well? He designs Marc Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs and is the creative director for Louis Vuitton. If he can achieve all that then you too have enough time". I have a similar rant about Karl Lagerfeld and they're relatively interchangeable but that's not the point, today I want to stress that Marc has been knighted. Knighted! By the French. The French! To celebrate, we want to show you our favourite pieces from his Spring 2010 Marc by Marc Jacobs show which hits stores any day now (cue wish list):

Topman Hearts Braiding

Had my little sister told me braiding would be so cool in the future I totally would've played dolls with her and learnt the tricks of the trade but alas, my story isn't so. And here I am, years later, lusting over this Topman tee (from their LENS collection, it hits stores in Feb) that I'm sure I could DIY if I had the magic braiding skill running through my finger tips. Care to swing by the store to teach me?

Let's Do The Mash (The Monster Mash)

I only did this post 'cause I wanted you to see my truly awesome and not to mention hilarious creation I whipped up (yes, pun intended) on the computer machine today! Yes! Oh yeah, and to talk about Mash Ups. Don't ya just love them? Before I have to hear your complaints about how this has zero to do with fashion consider this: Mash Ups are sartorial in a way - it's like when all your clothes are on your floor and you discover an outfit combo you hadn't noticed before. Don't the doors to fashion open then!

So, on that slightly obscure note here are our Top 5 to help get your hot self off the wall and onto the dance floor:

Led Snooppelin (Drop It Like It's A Whole Lotta Love) Party Ben
First up, an oldie but a goodie. This will keep your parents and your little brother (who thinks he's from South Central Los Angeles) both happy. Woo!

Party & Bullshit (In The USA) Hathbanger
This one is great for the secret Miley Cyrus fans out there. You can drop it at a party and your friends will be all like, "Oh man. Not Miley. You crazy home boy." And you can be all like, "Yo. Chillax. It's Biggie I like, not Lil' Miss Cyrus." Because that's how you sound when you talk, right?

Paper Rump DJ Tripp
Paper Planes. Still can't get enough of it. We have umpteen versions floating around bumping into each other inside our computer box machine but this is our latest high flying favourite.

Stardust Kids A Plus D
We went a little "Management" crazy the first time around (we're early adopters kids so we're talking 2007 here) therefore it's nice to hear an update featuring CBK favourite David Bowie. And the song went on forever...

Single Ladies (In Mayberry) Party Ben
If you haven't heard Single Ladies you're either: a) deaf, therefore we hold nothing against you, b) living in some bizarre Beyonce free portal or c) not my friend. This is a cheeky update to an already perfect song.

Comeback Kid

Comeback Kid hearts Tommy Ton

We mentioned yesterday that Tommy Ton is snapping pics for GQ outside all the various Milan catwalk venues. Here are just a few of our faves for your fashion inspiration:

Denim x sheepskin collar. You can do no wrong.

Neoprene electric blue booga-loo.

Wool tweed jacket with gigantor collar VS fierce haircut.

What YSL bag?

Ahh Milano,

The Fashion Feast: Milan Fashion Week Fall 2010

The men's parades have kicked off! Bang! Just like that. And already we here at Comeback Kid are "ooohing" and "ahhing" and "where's my credit card-ing" as outfit after outfit hits the runways. Lucky today isn't a scorcher in Melbourne - it makes viewing these collections all the easier when you can actually imagine wearing them. Less talk - here's our favourite pieces thus far:

Layers a plenty at Costume National and John Varvatos.

Feeling bold? So are Robert Cavalli and Salvatore Ferragamo.

I'll take two. Long hair and even longer scarves from Salvatore Ferragamo and Giuliano Fujiwara.

And the winner so far? Fur, leather, shoulders and cuffs: Burberry Prorsum have us eating out of their hands for another season.

Want to stay on top of the latest? The Fashionisto does brilliant collection summaries, GQ.com gives you all the parades (ensure you click the "view full screen" option) and Jak & Jil is taking snaps from the streets of all the handsome attendees - and not just on his own blog, see more here.

Comeback Kid
